The Safe Ecosystem Foundation is a not-for-profit organization based in Zug, Switzerland that supports the development of Safe technology and fosters the Safe ecosystem. You’ll be joining a growing Safe project team that currently includes 90+ people overall. This role is based in Zug(🇨🇭). Most of our project team is based in Berlin, Germany (🇩🇪), but we also have awesome teammates in Spain (🇪🇸), Portugal (🇵🇹) and other countries.

💻 About the role:

As a Legal and Compliance Operations Manager at the Safe Ecosystem Foundation, you will focus on tasks such as contract management, day-to-day legal operational tasks, providing legal advice to the Foundation Council and supporting the legal team in various matters.

In addition, you will provide compliance advice to the Management / Foundation Council and establish compliance strategies & processes for several funding programs and initiatives operated by the Foundation and Safe DAO. You will also have the opportunity to coordinate Safe DAO initiatives and work on strategies to implement compliance processes at the interface between the Safe Ecosystem Foundation and Safe DAO.

🗃️ What you will be doing:

  • Provide compliance advisory services to the Management / Foundation Council and in various projects related to programs run by the Foundation as well as for strategic developments in a very dynamic environment.

  • Development and execution of an overall compliance strategy for the Foundation.

  • Identification and reporting of compliance risks as well as development and implementation of mitigating measures (e.g sanctions and embargo laws).

  • Education and training of employees on compliance topics and updates of policies & guidelines of the Foundation.

  • Liaise and coordinate with external advisors and assist in preparing necessary documentation for reporting purposes (ESA Reporting of the Foundation etc.).

  • Manage KYC / KYB processes for programs and funding activities of the Foundation and Safe DAO.

  • Manager of all legal operations in the legal department of the Foundation.

  • Support in drafting, reviewing and negotiating all kinds of agreements and internal regulations for the legal team.

  • Liaise with foreign regulators, external counsels and internally with the management and the Foundation Council regarding all legal and compliance requests.

  • Drive further legal and regulatory projects regarding strategic developments in a very dynamic environment.

🎒 What you will bring:

  • An outstanding Swiss / EU law or (business) economics degree.

  • Minimum 3-4 years of proven experience either as a lawyer in the financial services industry or as an in-house counsel / compliance officer.

  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven ability to lead contract negotiations and to deal directly with senior counsels.

  • Conceptual thinker with strong analytical and technical skills as well as courage to provide clear guidance based on own assessments.

  • Problem-solving ability and mental flexibility to find pragmatic solutions supporting the business with innovative products and business concepts.

  • Goal and result-oriented, able to work with minimal direction and provide hands-on and practicable solutions (with a good commercial business sense).

  • English on a full professional working proficiency level.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced business environment as well as dealing with ambiguity and the courage to provide clear guidance based on own assessments.

  • Being comfortable working with international and multi-disciplinary teams.

➕ Nice to have:

  • Additional qualifications (e.g. international bar admission (CH), MBA, LLM) are a plus.

  • Experience working with start-ups and/or fintech companies.

  • Keen interest and understanding of cryptocurrency, blockchain technology and digital assets.
